Nasal sinus Anatomy:
The paranasal sinuses are mucosa-lined cavities in the cranial bones that lie around the nasal cavity. There are four (4) sinuses on each side of the face for a total of eight (8). Each one is located within the cranial bone of the same name. The frontal sinuses are above the eyes; the maxillary sinuses are under the eyes; the ethmoidal sinuses are between the eyes; and the sphenoid sinuses are behind the eyes. Healthy sinuses drain their secretions though openings or ducts; these ducts also ensure adequate ventilation.
